Advanced Police Carbine (APC in short) is a most recent creation of the well-known Swiss company B&T AG (formerly known as Brugger & Thomet AG). It was first announced to general public in 2011. This weapon is a result of careful analysis of current requirements of Law Enforcement and Military Special Forces for a compact and versatile pistol-caliber weapon, which can be used for either defensive role (as PDW) or as an offensive weapon for many CQB and MOUT scenarios. B&T APC submachine gun is a modular weapon which will be available in several calibers (initial offerings are ubiquitous 9×19 Luger and .45APC, still popular in USA) and in several configurations, including selective-fire submachine guns strictly for ‘government users’ and semi-automatic only carbines for certain police and security applications as well as for civilian use (where permitted by law). B&T APC submachine gun is offered as a ‘package’, with nice set of accessories including red dot sight, detachable forward grip, sling, detachable flashlight mount, so it is ready for serious tactical use right out of the box. It is built with typical Swiss quality and attention to details, and is compliant with NATO qualification requirements. Serious considerations also were made to ensure affordable cost of the package.
B&T Advanced Police Carbine / APC submachine gun is a simple blowback operated weapon, firing from closed bolt. It is available in two versions, selective-fired and semi-auto only. In either version, it has a hammer-fired ignition system. Safety / fire selector switches are of ambidextrous design, and conveniently located at the top of the pistol grip. Selective-fired APC submachine guns have three position levers (Safe – Semi – Auto) while semi-automatic carbines have two-position levers (Safe – Fire). One interesting aspect of the semi-auto APC is that it uses AR15-style trigger unit, which will accept many after-market replacement parts. All other controls, such as bolt hold-open release button and magazine catch button, also are duplicated on either side of the gun for ambidextrous use, and charging handle can be installed on either side of the bolt, according to user preferences. Construction of the B&T APC submachine gun involves modern materials, such as aerospace-grade alloy for upper receiver and polymers for lower receiver / pistol grip, magazines and shoulder stock. B&T APC submachine gun is designed to handle most, if not all types of factory ammunition in its respective caliber, feeding from double stack, double feed magazines of various capacities, originally developed for B&T MP9 or MP45 submachine guns. All B&T APC submachine guns come with 3-lug barrels which would accept quick-detachable sound suppressors (‘silencers’), also developed by B&T.
Special version of the B&T APC submachine gun, known as APC-LE, is adapted for effective use of standard, normally supersonic 9mm ammunition in conjunction with the sound suppressor. This version features built in, manually switchable gas valve which allows to release some powder gases from the bore, decreasing average working pressures and thus dropping muzzle velocity of the bullets below the speed of sound, to further decrease firing signature. When silencer is not required or when special subsonic ammunition is available, this valve can be disengaged to use all available energy of the powder gases to propel the bullet.
Standard furniture for the B&T Advanced Police Carbine / APC submachine gun includes side-folding shoulder stocks (either more or less typical skeletonized one or proprietary B&T Helmet Stock, intended for use by police personnel wearing helmets with protective ballistic visors). Other accessories like forward grip, tactical lights and/or lasers can be mounted on NATO accessory rails, also known as Picatinny-type rails, installed on the forend. Standard sighting equipment includes Aimpoint TL1 red dot sight, mounted using B&T quick detach mount onto the top accessory rail, and integral back-up iron sights on folding bases, which are normally folded out of sight but can be rapidly popped up for emergency use.

Finally the B&T APC family is complete. There has been a lot of rumors about the APC308 and it was expected to be released at SHOT Show, but was nowhere to be found there.
Instead it is released today at Enforce TAC 2018, Germany, closer to its birthplace in Thun, Switzerland.
B&T are releasing not only one, but two versions: One in a Carbine version and a 13″ barrel and a DMR version with a 18,9″ barrel.
With the introduction of the APC308 you can now source a B&T APC firearm with identical controls and ergonomics in all major calibers from 9×19 mm, .45 ACP to 5,56x45mm/.223 Remington, 300 Blackout/300 Whisper and up to 7,62x51mm/.308 Winchester.
I am assuming that one of B&T’s target is to be able to offer this product family to Special Police units, Special Forces and other smaller LEAF groups. Perhaps the they are aiming even higher than that?
Users will appreciate that the magwell accepts Magpul SR25/M110/AR10 magazines. I’m glad B&T didn’t invent the wheel again with a magazine of their own.

The basic specifications for both the APC308 and DMR are:

As a European I use a B&T suppressor for both hunting and long range precision shooting (very comfortable) and it’s been nothing but excellent so far.

B&T has developed what many say is our finest work. The weapon possesses all the same handling characteristic and controls as all other members of the APC-family. This will reduce transition training time to any of the other APC platforms significantly. But this will not only save time, money, energy and of course needless stress in the classroom or on the range, but also in the armory. As more than 50% of the parts throughout the APC family are the same, logistic cost are cut significantly as well as service time and costs.
The selector, magazine release, bolt handle, and bolt release are completely ambidextrous. The bolt handle can easily be changed to accommodate either left or right handed shooters. The standard stock folds to the right and can be fi red in the closed position. The operator can optimize the weapon to any mission by being able to choose any of the fi ve different stock options available.
The upper receiver is machined from solid aerospace quality alloy. The Picatinny/NAR rails in the 12 and 6 o’clock position are machined into the receiver and are not an add on, so there is nothing to get loose and ruin the weapon’s zero. The top rail runs along the entire receiver of the weapon. This provides 420 mm of space to mount any type of optic plus additional NVD, Thermal Sights or Booster on the market. The bottom rails runs 155 mm to accommodate bipods, laser designators or handgrips.
To accommodate the different needs for a 7.62 x 51 mm (.308 Win) rifle, B&T offers two versions of the APC308:
The standard APC308 in a carbine configuration with a 330 mm barrel and the APC308 – DMR with a 480 mm barrel.
Both versions have a cold-hammer-forged barrel made in Germany. The 1:12 right hand twist rate is to accommodate the widest range of bullet weights. With match grade ammunition the APC308 will produce 1 MOA accuracy.
The barrel is threaded and is delivered with a B&T designed flash hider. This flash hider provides excellent reduction of muzzle flash and will accept the B&T Rotex-IIA suppressor. The Rotex-IIA is widely used in the world by professional users and the perfect choice for the APC308 for all kind of missions.
A selector switch in the gas block can be set to “suppressor mode“ in order to provide perfect function when using the suppressor.
The lower receiver group is a precision machined alloy.
The adaptable A2-style pistol grip is produced by Magpul and represents the latest in ergonomics and operator comfort. The weapon accepts 7.62 x 51mm Magpul SR25/M110/AR10 magazines. These are available in 10, 20 and 25-round sizes.
The selector and trigger guard are oversized to accommodate gloved hands.
The APC308 is the perfect choice when a Police Carbine or DMR rifle with powerful and long range capable cartridge is needed.

Швейцарская компания B&T AG (ранее Brugger & Thomet AG), до 2001-го года была известна, как один из авторитетных производителей приборов бесшумной стрельбы, выкупив у Steyr-Mannlicher чертежи и права на конструкцию пистолета-пулемёта ТМР, и несколько усовершенствовав который, наладили его выпуск и начали продавать свой вариант пистолета-пулемета под наименованием B&T MP9. И это один из лучших представителей своего класса оружия. Продержавшись на рынке только с MP9 около 10 лет, швейцарцы запустили в 2011-ом году на рынок новый пистолет-пулемёт – B&T APC, так называемого, большого класса, когда магазин вставляется не в рукоять, а располагается впереди неё. Магазины, кстати, сделали взаимозаменяемые с MP9, что очень удобно для конечного покупателя.
Но вся суть скрывалась в аббревиатуре APC – Advanced Police Carbine, ставившая немного в тупик, почему это не sub-machine-gun (пистолет-пулемёт), но карабин – а это другой класс и вид оружия. Всё прояснилось спустя ещё два года, в 2013-ом, когда компания B&T AG предложила на рынке штурмовую винтовку под теми же буквами – APC, но с другими цифрами, обозначающими обще-НАТО-вский патрон – APC556, то есть, 5,56х45мм. Оказалось, что швейцарцы, очень грамотно и целенаправленно, разработали общую, для разных видов оружия, платформу, с единым и узнаваемым внешним видом и, что самое важное, – идентичной эргономикой пользования. Нужен пистолет-пулемёт – есть B&T APC9 и B&T APC45 в 2-ух калибрах, различных версиях, включая версии SD – куда же без своего легендарного наследия, а также, полуавтоматические гражданские версии, нужна штурмовая винтовка (автомат) – есть APC556 и APC223 (гражданская полуавтоматическая версия) и APC300 (.300 Whisper/.300 AAC Blackout) в различных версиях длины, в автоматическом и полуавтоматическом вариантах, со всем спектром своих аксессуаров, включая и отличные ПБС-ы собственного производства.
Чего не хватало, так это винтовки под более крупный патрон. И вот, наконец, семейство B&T APC завершено! В 2018-ом году, на Enforce TAC 2018 (Германия), был представлен B&T APC308 под 7,62x51mm (.308 Win). А что совсем хорошо – B&T запускает не одну, а две версии: одну в версии карабина с 13-ти дюймовым стволом (330 мм) и вторую версию DMR с тяжёлым 18,9-ти дюймовым стволом (480 мм). В принципе, как сделали до швейцарцев из B&T AG, другие и более крупные конкуренты – Heckler&Koch HK G28 (DMR), FN SCAR SSR Mk 20, Sig Sauer SIG716 Precision Sniper, Beretta ARX-200. Военные могут выбирать между пятью различными вариантами ложи.
Ствол оснащен фирменным дульным тормозом-пламегасителем, который при необходимости может быть заменен устройством для бесшумной и беспламенной стрельбы, как например, – ROTEX-IIA, один из самых передовых на данный момент. Обе версии оснащаются холодно-катанными стволами, сделанными в Германии, и могут использовать весь спектр патронов. Надежную работу оружия с использованием глушителя звука выстрела обеспечивает двухпозиционный газовый регулятор. При использовании “правильных патронов” (соответствующего матчевого класса), производитель заявляет, что APC308 будет обеспечивать точность в 1MOA. Ударно-спусковой механизм позволяет стрелять только одиночными выстрелами. Ствольная коробка винтовки состоит из двух половин. Верхняя часть которой, изготавливается из усиленного сплава, используемого в аэрокосмической отрасли, а нижняя из специального усиленного сплава.
С введением APC308, компания B&T AG теперь предлагает полное семейство огнестрельного оружия APC специальным полицейским подразделениям, подразделениям спецназа и любым другим военизированным группам, с идентичными элементами управления и эргономикой во всех основных калибрах от 9×19 мм, .45 ACP до 5,56×45 мм/.223 Remington, 300 Blackout/300 Whisper и до 7,62x51mm/.308 Winchester, предлагая, не терять деньги на пере/доучивание. Кроме того, в компании решили не изобретать колесо заново, и адаптировали магазины известного производителя аксессуаров военного назначения, компании Magpul под патрон 7,62x51mm на 10, 20 и 25 патронов, и это те же магазины, что использует большой перечень винтовок, включая и некоторые из них, состоящих или состоявших на вооружении армии США. Понятно, куда целятся! Адаптивная пистолетная рукоятка A2, также, производства Magpul, выполнена в максимально эргономичном и комфортном для пользователя виде. Винтовка может быть оснащена разнообразными прикладами производства B&T с гидравлическим буфером, установленным в прикладе для уменьшения отдачи. Все органы управления – предохранитель-переводчик, затворная задержка, экстрактор магазина – выполнены двусторонними, рукоятка взведения затвора может быть установлена как справа, так и слева. Спусковая скоба позволяет работать в перчатках.
Новому детищу швейцарских оружейников из B&T AG предстоит бороться за покупателя с серьёзными конкурентами на рынке полуавтоматических винтовок на ближних (для снайперских винтовок) дистанциях до 1000 метров, среди которых:
С тактической точки зрения, эти винтовки являются аналогами снайперской винтовки СВД.
По отрывочной информации в сети, уже готова компактная версия PDW, причём, указывается, что существует таковая и в полностью автоматическом варианте. (информация требует подтверждения)
